Shaquille O'Neal may have only averaged 2.5 assists during his NBA career, but he may have offered the biggest assist of his life off of the court. During a recent trip to the jewelry store, O'Neal made the kind gesture of paying for a stranger's engagement rings. The four-time NBA Champion walked into an unidentified jewelry store where he saw a gentleman standing at the cashier prepared to make on of the biggest purchases of his career when he walked up to the cashier and handed him his credit card. Video of the kind deed was later posted on the official Instagram account for his radio show.
Good deeds are not new for the Basketball Hall of Fame inductee. Recently, he partnered with Kellogg's to launch a fundraiser in hopes of providing kids with better access to sports. He has also launched his own organization called the "Get Game Ready" foundation. The organization works to help high school athletic programs restart safely and efficiently during the COVID-19 pandemic. "Get Game Ready" will supply personal protective equipment as well as sanitation supplies.
“We want to at least help these schools cover the cost of crucial supplies in addition to personal protective equipment, like water bottles, uniforms, sports gear, and all of the stuff that they need," he told USA Today.
"We wanted to be there for them."
Beyond his philanthropy, O'Neal continues to be a fixture in the game of basketball. He recently wrapped up his time in Indianapolis as a member of the Turner Sports team covering the NCAA Division I Men's Final Four. He also covers the NBA for TNT.
