The Henry County Sheriff's Office is preparing to make a rather big announcement. NBA Champion Shaquille O'Neal will join the Henry County Sheriff's Office as its director of community relations.
“As a part of Sheriff Scandrett’s strategic plan, bridging the gap between the community and law enforcement is paramount,” spokesman Eric Jackson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“Coupled with Dr. O’Neal’s philanthropy, Scandrett and Shaq have a specific plan to begin uniting the Henry County community.”
This is not O'Neal's first time delving into public service. Raised within a military family, O'Neal has always shown an interest in law enforcement. In 2015, he was officially sworn in as a reserve officer for the Doral Police Department in Florida. Over the last six years, he's been sworn in as a reserve officer in Tempe, Miami Beach and Los Angeles. Not to mention, he was sworn in as a deputy for Clayton County back in 2016. In 2017, O'Neal announced that he would campaign to become Henry Count Sheriff in 2020. However, he backtracked on those comments and told Dr. Oz that he would delay his camping until 2024.
While he prepares for his 2024 campaign, he will continue to serve Henry County while working for TNT in Atlanta. O'Neal is one of most prominent voices in basketball as a co-host of Inside The NBA alongside Kenny Smith, Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley. The show has won eleven Emmy Awards that O'Neal can place beside his four NBA titles.
